Now a day’s depression is very common. According to the American Psychiatric Association, “Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.” According to the report of WHO (World Health Organization), an estimated 804000 suicide deaths occurred worldwide in 2012, an annual global suicide death rate of 11.4 per 100000 population, and for every suicide, there are many more suicide attempts. Many cases are also observed in which people do not attempt to do suicide but live a depressed life.

According to the Therapist in Encino, CA, “Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It is also known as clinical depression or a major depressive disorder, it affects how the patient feels, thinks, and behaves and can lead to”.

Depression is due to overloaded tensions and pressure. It is a mood disorder that becomes the cause of sadness. The patients start losing hope and interest in doing different stuff. When someone loses his/her hope then sometimes they become angry. Actually, this saying should be recalled that “Anger, resentment and jealously doesn’t change the heart of others it only changes yours.”

Depression is not just about how someone feels or thinks but it also affects the behavior and attitude of the patient. Moreover, Biochemistry, genetics, personality, and environmental factors can play a role in causing depression.

Internationally Round about 280 million people have depression but more than 75% of people don’t go for mental treatment. Actually, it’s a social stigma that stops them to go for mental treatment. Going to a psychiatrist or psychologist is considered taboo. People die with this depression but they say no to mental treatment.

Many social workers are working internationally to break down this stigma. For this purpose, they are using new techniques and tools.  As this is an era of new media, everyone uses social media so, many social media workers and health care workers are running different social media campaigns through which they are trying to break down this stigma.

Internationally 10th of October is celebrated as a mental health awareness day. Moreover, at very cheap fees many psychiatrists and psychologists are providing online treatment and online therapies. Still, there is a need to do work to break down this stigma on the individual level. But before working for society it is important to break down this stigma for our own self. This stigma will remain as long as we will consider it. We can easily break this stigma just need to dare it. Depression brings negativity and even this depression at its peak can lead anybody towards death. The good thing is that we can kill our depression. So, try to kill your depression before it kills you.
